The question of the undermining of mental health issues in developing nations
Everyone understands that infectious diseases affect public health, but one might wonder if mental health issues have the same negative consequences. Mental disorders might not be contagious or visible from one’s appearance, but nevertheless they are damaging to society. Mental illness obstructs people from participating in society. Some consequences for society which stem from of a lack of treatment of mental health issues include a higher unemployment rate and a higher suicide rate. Mental illness negatively affects one’s ability to perform a job correctly, which consequently affects the economic status of a nation and therefore prevents the nation from becoming developed, hereby keeping it a developing nation.
